Manufacturing

Anginera is manufactured by seeding human fibroblast cells onto a bioabsorbable mesh (Vicryl™) in an environment that simulates conditions found in the body.
View tissue growth process

The process is carried out within a specialized bioreactor, in which the cells attach to the mesh, replicate and secrete collagen, extracellular matrix proteins and growth factors. Tissue growth is supported with cell medium that provides required nutrients for cell proliferation. The "closed system" used to manufacture Anginera maintains a controlled environment for the growth of a sterile, uniform and reproducible viable human tissue. The product is cryopreserved after manufacture to provide extended shelf life. Theregen purchases its Anginera patches from the current manufacturer of Dermagraft, Advanced BioHealing, Inc.

An Anginera epicardial patch is removed from its storage pouch before placement on a human heart. The patch is embedded with living human cells.
